Hello everyone! Welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, I’m Ishita, and I create blogs on fashion and lifestyle. The reason I make styling blogs is to help all the girls out there become more confident in their style and look their best. I sincerely hope that these tips will help you in your styling journey. Today, I’m going to share with you 7 common fashion mistakes that many girls make, and I’ll even highlight where I went wrong in my own journey. Let’s dive into the details!
1. Wearing the Wrong Shoes
The first mistake many girls make is not wearing the right shoes with their outfit. Shoes are an essential part of your look; they can make or break an outfit. Often, shoes are the last thing we think about when putting an outfit together, but choosing the wrong pair can completely ruin your appearance.
For instance, if you’re wearing a cute floral dress, sneakers may not complement it well. Instead, go for a pair of heels to maintain that feminine vibe. On the other hand, if you’re wearing a sporty t-shirt dress, a pair of sneakers would be the perfect match—not nude heels or black shoes. A lot of people think black shoes are a universal option, but that’s not always true. Neutral shades like beige or nude are more versatile.
Here’s a tip to help you when you’re confused: follow the SOFA technique. It stands for Season, Occasion, Formality, and Activity. This method helps you determine whether you should go for heels, flats, sandals, boots, or sneakers depending on the event.
2. Choosing the Wrong Heel Height
The second mistake that many girls make, including myself in the past, is choosing the wrong heel height. While higher heels can seem more glamorous, they can be incredibly uncomfortable. In my college days, I thought that the higher the heel, the better I would look. I would go for 5-6 inch heels, thinking it would make me appear taller and more fashionable. But let me tell you, the pain of walking in them made me regret it every single time.
The ideal heel height is around 3 inches, which strikes the perfect balance between style and comfort. Remember, you don’t have to suffer in uncomfortable shoes just to look stylish. Style and comfort should go hand in hand. So, next time you’re shopping for heels, keep comfort in mind too!
3. Baggy or Ill-Fitting Jeans
Another mistake that I’ve noticed many girls making is wearing jeans or bottoms that are too baggy or ill-fitting. This is especially true when the jeans start gathering at the ankles or dragging at the bottom. For instance, churidars should gather at the ankle, but regular jeans or leggings should fit properly without gathering at the hem.
This can be easily avoided by choosing the right size. It may take some trial and error to find the perfect fit, and I know I’ve tried several different brands and sizes to get it right. So, the key is to find the size that fits you perfectly and ensure that your jeans or leggings do not bunch up at the bottom.
4. Wearing Visible Panty Lines
This is a very common mistake, especially for those who wear body-hugging dresses, leggings, or gym wear. Visible panty lines can completely ruin your outfit and make you feel self-conscious. It’s essential to invest in seamless underwear when you’re wearing form-fitting clothes. Brands like Marks & Spencer, H&M, and La Senza offer great options for seamless underwear that will not show through your clothes.
You don’t want to be caught with visible lines when you’re trying to look your best. Seamless panties are a lifesaver, and they will help you feel more comfortable and confident in your outfits.
5. Not Choosing the Right Socks for Sneakers
This is a small but significant mistake many girls make when wearing sneakers. If you’re not doing the knee-high sock look, it’s important to wear no-show socks. Wearing visible socks with sneakers can draw attention to your feet and make the entire outfit look less polished.
Brands like H&M and Jockey offer great no-show socks that stay hidden inside your shoes. This makes your feet look cleaner, and your focus remains on the shoes, rather than the socks.
6. Sticking to the Same Hairstyle
Have you ever found yourself sticking to the same old hairstyle for years? I used to always wear my hair in a side part, and I would just leave it at that. I did this for the first several blogs I made, and it was only later that I realized the importance of switching things up!
Changing your hairstyle can transform your look. You don’t have to cut your hair to experiment; simply try out different partings, such as middle parting or side parting, or even give curls a try. I’ve done some blogs on easy hairstyles that you can try, and I’ll be linking them below so you can find some inspiration. A simple change in hairstyle can elevate your entire look and make you feel more refreshed.
7. Overdoing or Underdoing Accessories
The last mistake I want to talk about is not wearing accessories or wearing too many. While I love a minimalistic look, accessories can really enhance an outfit. However, the key is to strike the right balance. If you love statement pieces, keep it to just one bold accessory, such as a statement necklace or a chunky bracelet.
For a more minimal look, you can wear 2-3 accessories, such as a simple chain, a ring, and a watch, or a watch and a bracelet. I’m a huge fan of Daniel Wellington watches and often recommend them for their timeless design. You don’t have to overdo it; the goal is to complement your outfit, not overpower it.
In my previous blogs on must-have accessories, I went into more detail about what types of accessories you can invest in. I’ll link it below so you can get a better idea of how to accessorize your look with minimal effort but maximum impact.
